"The National Emergency Briefing Screening
Published: 16 October 2026
Hambleden Parish Council is proud to offer a screening of The National Emergency Briefing, the iconic and popular public information film, currently showing at various venues across the country. Colleagues at Hambleden Cinema Club have kindly agreed to enable the screening in Hambleden Village Hall on Friday 13th November and provide bar facilities if they can.
For those unfamiliar with the film, over 50 minutes, nine experts working in sectors ranging from defence, public order, food security, nature and more, offer the most comprehensive and illuminating account yet of how climate change and biodiversity loss are already affecting their sector and how they may continue to do so, unless further remedial action is taken.
Following the film, we are arranging for a panel of local experts to answer your questions. We are delighted to have already secured Professor Chris Merchant, a renowned climate scientist from Reading University, Will Lacey of Lacey’s Family Farm, who many of you may know amd Dr Kate Heppell who is Head of Landscapes at the Chilterns National Landscape. We are also in conversations with representatives from Greener Henley and The Chilterns Conservation Board. Dependent on panelist availability, we would hope to show if opportunity allows a further screening in Frieth in the spring.
The film is unique and already proving popular with audiences. It will provide a rare opportunity for residents to find out for themselves more about the issues around climate change and should make for an informative, wide ranging and, enjoyable evening. Entry is free, please contact Cllr Amanda Hopkins to book your free ticket, subject to the venue capacity restrictions.
